Froome service

Chris Froome

Wow, what a fantastic period of British sporting success we’ve all been able to enjoy during this heatwave. First it was Andy Murray triumphing at Wimbledon. Then we’ve had multiple Aussie-crushing antics at home and abroad, thanks to our cricket and rugby union teams in recent days. And now, with Mr Froome, we’ve got a second consecutive British winner of the biggest annual sporting event in the world, courtesy of Chris winning the 100th Tour De France in Paris.

It’s certainly a great time to be a British sports fan and naturally, it would make sense for brands and businesses to consider how best to take advantage – similar to the Yorkshire businesses who are already deep into planning their activities around the 2014 launch of the Tour De France up in their Dales.

With all that in mind, we thought we’d re-share the link to what is now an even more relevant blog by David Atkinson in the The Huffington Post from earlier this month, where our Managing Partner considers the merits of involvement with the likes of British cycling for brands. Read all about it HERE.

One thing is for sure, Chris Froome will surely have a fair few sponsorship offers and merchandising deals to ponder in the coming weeks whilst sitting in the garden at home, wearing his yellow jersey.

Boardmasters 2012 with Desperados

The sun was shining, the sea was gleaming and the Desperados was flowing….Boardmasters 2012 in Newquay was underway and Space was very much in the midst of it.

Following the incredible success of Parklife, Space launched its second festival activation of 2012 with Desperados, the Tequila flavoured beer. Space organised a weekend that would put Danny Boyle to shame with amazing musical talent, roaming drummers challenging the crowd to ‘drum offs’, sampling of Desperados beer and branded merchandise, body graffiti artists and finally a branded skate ramp showcasing BMX and skateboarding demos.

The incredible line up put together by Space’s own extraordinary Amy P, Senior Account Manager, included performances from Murkage, Mikill Pain, Maxta and Deekline all supported by resident DJ’s Madam X and Star One and the crazily good beat boxing trio Duke. The crowd was buzzing, the Dome was rocking and at one point Murkage nearly literally bought the house down!

Finishing off the weekend was an insane set from Shy FX and MC Messy. With a dome capacity of 300, and a rowdy crowd of 5000, we had to dispatch Space troops Malcolm, Account Director, Amy P and Holly, Account Exec who donned their high vis vests and stepped up to the front line to control those who just couldn’t resist the lure of the Desperados dome….and quite rightly so, as once again we had smashed it.

Manic? Yes, Challenging? Yes, Noisy? Oh Yes…

Would we do it again? Most definitely!

In fact we are! Look out for reports from the Desperados Factory at this year’s Freeze in Battersea this October 26th and 27th, or better still, come join us!

Come on Team GB!

In true Olympics spirit, we have the pleasure of introducing Space’s very own athletes….

Step up Malcolm McLaren and Amy Gutsell, seen here with Olympic rowing gold medallist Ben Hunt-Davis.

While we’d love to say two of our own are good enough to compete in the Games, the guys were at the Team GB Preparation Camp in Loughborough not to perform, but to co-host an Olympic-themed event with the British Olympic Association for a Samsung promotion.

A Worldwide Partner of the London 2012 Olympic Games, Samsung rewarded 100 lucky consumers by sending them to the Camp to have the ultimate Team GB experience.  Winners were treated to an action packed day of Olympic sports, tours of the rooms in which Team GB athletes receive their Olympic kit, and an Olympic quiz created by Space. Winners were made to feel like true athletes – not only did they eat from a menu identical to that of Team GB Olympians, they were also able to pose with the Olympic torch, like true superstars!

Ben Hunt-Davis was on hand to talk about the preparation he undertook before his gold experience in Sydney 2000 (and to pass around his medal to people who can only dream of achieving such success!)

All in all, it was a day deserving of a gold medal itself!
