Pipped to the post

We’re pleased to confirm that My Condor, the John Smith’s lease-horse, took a well deserved 2nd place at Cartmel on Thursday.

If you’re into either horse racing or reading the marketing press (or both) you’ve hopefully already heard about Smithy –  the racehorse who is central to our award winning campaign for John Smith’s.

Smithy, having been in training all winter, is currently taking a break for the summer, as is the norm with most jump horses. Or ‘out to grass’ as they call it.

But we didn’t want the fun to stop for all our Smithy shareholders who are supporting the campaign. So, we decided to lease one of Donald McCain’s (Smithy’s trainer) horses and run him in John Smith’s colours over the summer. The decision of which horse to lease was put down to a shareholder vote, with a clear favourite from the start, My Condor. Always a good omen.

So, last Thursday My Condor ran at Cartmel, which was only his second ever race in the famous red and green colours. He ran an impressive race, leading throughout and just missing out on first place at the very last moment, claiming 2nd spot.

Still, it’s a great achievement for My Condor and young Jockey Nick Slatter. We’re hoping to see more successful races from My Condor soon – at least until his mate Smithy gets back  to reclaim the spotlight in the Autumn.

So, what do you think?
